Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The fear of death and rebirth is removed by performing loving devotional service to the Lord of the World.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one becomes immaculate and pure. The Lord Himself takes care of such a one.
The filth of birth and death is washed away, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
This one says that loving the One takes away the fear of death.
Janam maran kaa bha-o ga-i-aa — the fear of being born and dying is gone. This fear comes up again and again in Siree Raag. It is cut away through bhaa-o bhagat gopaal, loving devotion to the Lord of the World. Not by getting ready for death. Not by thinking hard about death. By love.
Think of a small child who is scared in a storm. Explaining thunder helps a little. Being held by someone who loves them helps much more.
Saadhoo sangat nirmalaa — in the company of the holy, you become clean. Aap karay partipaal — the Lord Himself looks after you.
Gur darsan daykh nihaal — seeing the Guru's darshan brings joy. Darshan means the blessing of seeing someone holy. It can mean the Guru in person, and it can mean seeing the One inside.
Is your relationship with your own mortality marked more by fear or by some form of peace? What has affected that relationship? What would move it toward greater peace?
