In plain words

If we meet the Perfect True Guru, we obtain the Treasure of the Shabad.

Please grant Your Grace, God, that we may meditate on Your Ambrosial Naam.

The pains of birth and death are taken away. We are intuitively centered on His Meditation.

Ask for the grace to meditate — the asking is itself the beginning of receiving.
The deeper layer

The prayer format of this opening: deh (grant, please give) — Guru Arjan begins from asking, not from teaching. The asking for grace to meditate on the Ambrosial Naam is both the request and the orientation that makes the receiving possible.

Janam maran dukh (pains of birth and death) — the existential suffering of the cycle — are nathay (removed) when the Naam takes hold. And the method: sahaj dhian — intuitive, effortless meditation. The sahaj quality is the fruit of grace, not of technique.

A Question to Sit With

What would it mean to start your day by simply asking — not for things, but for the grace to do the one thing that matters? What would you ask for?
