In plain words

O Siblings of Destiny, make God your Friend.

Cursed is clinging attachment and love of Maya. No one is seen to be at peace.

Look at the evidence: among those absorbed in Maya, is anyone at peace? The observation settles the question.
The deeper layer

This is the pause line, the Rahao, the center of the shabad. It says: make the One your friend, because clinging to passing things brings no peace.

Sukhee na deesai ko-ay means no one is seen to be at peace. This is something you can check by looking. Look at people who are wrapped up in maya, the pull of things that do not last: money, status, having more. Are they at peace?

Maa-i-aa moh pareet dharig means cursed is clinging love for maya. It is not love itself that is the problem. It is moh, the tight clinging that hurts us. It comes from putting all our hope in things that cannot hold it.

Think of building a sandcastle right at the edge of the waves. However hard you work, the tide takes it.

Bhaa-ee ray meet karahu prabh so-ay means O brothers and sisters, make God your friend. The words are warm and close. It is not only "worship God." It is "be friends with God." This is the friend who can fix what no other friendship can.

A Question to Sit With

Look at the people around you — those most absorbed in accumulation, status, and pleasure. Are they at peace? What do you observe?
