In plain words

Meeting with the humble beings — the Saints — the Messenger of Death is conquered.

They sing the Glories of the Lord, and they are intuitively absorbed in His meditation.

The Messenger is conquered not by fighting but by meeting the humble — the ones who have no fear of death.

In the company of the humble Saints, the Messenger of Death is conquered — they have already given up what death would take.
The deeper layer

The Messenger of Death (jam) is conquered through meeting the humble (sant milai). Not through personal heroism, not through arguing with death, not through accumulating merit — through meeting those who have already conquered the fear of death through the Naam.

The Saints are not afraid of death because they have already died the meaningful death (jeevat marnaa). The Messenger of Death has no power over those who have already given up what he would take.

Meeting such people transfers something: in their company, the fear of death can begin to dissolve in us as well. The Saadh Sangat is protective precisely because the Saints carry within them what death cannot reach.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever been with someone who seemed genuinely unafraid of death — not in denial, but genuinely at peace about it? What was it like to be with them? Did it affect you?
