In the company of the good, I found God deep inside my own being - and His Name turned sweet to me.
Everything there is rests in the heart of the One, though it shows itself in a thousand colors.
The nine treasures are inside the deathless Name - and its resting place is inside this very body. The deepest stillness is there, and the music no hand plays -
a wonder past telling. Only the one He shows it to sees it - and that one understands.
In good company, a person discovers that the greatest treasure was inside them all along.
Satsang antar parabh deethaa — in the company of the good, I saw the One deep within. Satsang means the company of good, truth-loving people. Notice the order. The company comes first, and the inner finding comes second. Think of a house with a secret room. You could live there for years and never find it. Then a guest who knows the floor plan points at the right wall. The Sangat, the gathering of seekers, is where someone points out the inner door.
Then the verse places everything people search for in that one spot. Na-o niDh amrit parabh kaa naam — the nine treasures are in the life-giving Name of the One. The nine treasures stand for every kind of riches. Dayhee meh is kaa bisraam — the Name rests inside this very body. The body is the true shrine that pilgrims walk so far to reach.
The deepest stillness is there too. Sunn samaaDh anhat tah naad — there is samaadhi, deep peaceful stillness, and the anhad naad, the music that no hand plays. Gurbani speaks of this unstruck music in many places. Here it is found right on-site, inside.
Even so, the verse stays humble to the end. Tin daykhi-aa jis aap dikhaa-ay — only the one He shows it to sees it. The secret room is shown as a gift. It is never broken into.
If a map showed the greatest treasure buried inside you, who would you trust to help you read the map?
