Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The God-aware person loves the One - and lives with the One, the way you live with family.
The Name is what holds them up; the Name is their household.
They are awake - always, in every hour. The proud me has been set down for good.
In their mind, the highest joy; in their home, a joy that does not leave. They live in unshakable ease.
Nanak says: what they are cannot die.
For a God-aware person, the Name is the home they live in.
The pictures here come from family life. Barahm gi-aanee kai naam aaDhaar — the Name is their support. Barahm gi-aanee kai naam parvaar — the Name is their family. Parvaar means family, the people you live with. So remembering the One is not a task squeezed into a busy day. It is the household itself. All their other relationships happen inside it.
Barahm gi-aanee sadaa sad jaagat — they are awake, always. Here being wise means being awake, not knowing more facts. It means sleeping less on the inside. Most of us drift through daydreams of me, of looking important, of being scared. Gurbani elsewhere calls the world asleep. The God-aware person has woken up.
Notice where lasting joy lives: barahm gi-aanee kai ghar sadaa anand — in their home, always. Anand means deep joy. It has moved in to stay, not just come to visit for a weekend. The last line ties it together: naanak barahm gi-aanee kaa nahee binaas — they never perish. Whatever has joined the Undying shares its nature.
What lives in your home besides the people - what moods, what habits? What would it mean for peace to move in permanently?
