Practicing falsehood, only falsehood is obtained. O Nanak, through the Lord's Praise, one blossoms forth. ||3||

In plain words

Two things can blend into one only when there's no wall of 'me versus you' between them.

You can't order the One around — you offer humble prayers instead. And a life of pretending grows only more pretending, while praise makes a heart blossom.

Two hearts (or a soul and the One) become close only when the wall of 'me versus you' comes down.
The deeper layer

The shalok packs several truths together. One thing can merge into another, but duality keeps them apart — two become one only when the wall of separateness (me versus you) comes down. That's true of friendship, and of the soul and the One. It adds a note on the right posture toward the One: no one can issue commands to the Master; offer humble prayers instead — you don't boss the source of everything; you ask. And the seed-truth again: practicing falsehood, only falsehood is obtained — pretending just breeds more pretending — but through praise, one blossoms. Drop the wall, ask humbly, be real, and give thanks: the heart opens like a flower.

A Question to Sit With

What melts the wall of 'me versus you' between people?
