In plain words

By the kindness of the One, true understanding comes into the mind.

The mind opens like a flower, and finds a home in joy.

The senses settle down, and pride is let go.

The heart grows cool and calm, and the wisdom of the saints takes root inside.

The coming and going of births comes to an end, and the eyes are filled with the sight of the One.

Nanak says: the Word plays inside like music on a stringed instrument.

By the One's kindness, understanding blossoms and the heart grows calm.
The deeper layer

When the One is kind, understanding opens inside like a flower, the heart grows calm, and the Word plays within like music.

Kirpant haree-an mat tat gi-aanan: by the One's kindness, the heart of wisdom comes into the mind. Bigseedhiy buDhaa: the mind blossoms. Bas-yant rikhi-an ti-aag maanan: the senses come under control, and pride is set down. Seetlant rid-yan: the heart is cooled.

Rahant janman: the round of births ends, and the person is absorbed in seeing the One. Baajant naanak sabad beenaan: the Word sounds inside like a been, a stringed instrument. All of this comes as a gift.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever suddenly understood something you had been struggling with? What made you finally ready?
