Salok Sehskritee, Salok 25 — The Strength of the Weak
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One is the support of those with no support. The Naam of the One is the wealth of the poor.
The Lord of the Universe is the Master of those with no master. Keshav, the Lord with beautiful hair, is the strength of the weak.
The Undying One is kind to every being, the family of the humble, Damodar.
The All-knowing, Perfect, First One loves those who love back, and is full of mercy.
Vaasudev, the Supreme Lord, lives in every single heart.
Nanak prays: O kind One, give me this gift — that I never forget You, never forget You, Narayan.
The One is the strength of exactly those who have none, and lives in every heart.
ADhra Dhara Dhaarnah: the One holds up those with no support. NirDhanan Dhan naam: the Naam is the wealth of the poor. Anaath naath: the Master of the masterless. Balheen bal: the strength of the weak. Deen baanDhav: the family of the humble. The salok calls the One by many names, Gobind, Keshav, Damodar, Vaasudev and Narayan, all names for the same One.
Ghat ghat basant: the One lives in every heart. The closing prayer asks for one thing, said twice: nah bisrant nah bisrant, may I never forget, never forget.
When you feel small or weak, what would change if you knew that was where strength meets you?
