The mortal is beautiful and speaks sweet words, but in the farm of his heart, he harbors cruel vengeance.

He pretends to bow in worship, but he is false. Beware of him, O friendly Saints. ||60||

In plain words

A person may be handsome and speak sweet words, yet in the field of the heart grow cruel revenge.

Such a person bows down, but it is all false. Watch out for him, dear friends, the saints.

Look past sweet words to the heart, and stay kind while you look.
The deeper layer

Sweet words and a bow can hide a cold heart, so it is wise to look at what lies underneath.

Ridya bhoom vairnah: the heart is pictured as a field, and in it grows revenge. On the outside, the person looks good, speaks sweetly and bows low. Inside, something else is growing.

This is not a reason to distrust everyone; most people are what they seem. It is a reason to notice deeds as well as words. A person can be warm and wise at the same time: kind to others, and awake to what is under the sweet talk.

A Question to Sit With

How can you tell someone who is kind from someone who only acts kind to get something?
