In plain words

The One set up the earth, the sky and the air, the waters of the seas, fire and food.

The One made the moon and the stars for the night and the sun for the day, raised the mountains, and gave the trees their flowers and fruit.

The One made the gods, the people and the seven seas, and holds up the three worlds.

Guru Amar Das was blessed with the light of that one Naam, the True Naam of the One.

Behind the sky, the sea and the trees is one reality, and the Guru carries its light.
The deeper layer

The One behind earth, sky and sea is the Naam the Guru carries.

Rad names the poetic meter. The verse is a hymn of creation: earth, sky, water, fire, the moon, the sun, the seven seas, the three worlds. It builds to its point: the Guru carries har naam sat, the True Naam, the one reality behind it all. The Guru is a window onto the One.

A Question to Sit With

When you look up at the night sky, what do you feel is behind it all?
