Gaathaa, Salok 17 — the One shelters every living being
ਜਥ ਕਥ ਰਮਣੰ ਸਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਅਣਹ ॥
jath kath ramnaN sarnaN sarbatar jee-anah.
The Lord is All-pervading everywhere; He gives Sanctuary to all living beings.
ਤਥ ਲਗਣੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਨਕ ॥
tath lagnaN paraym naanak.
The mind is touched by His Love, O Nanak,
ਪਰਸਾਦੰ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨਹ ॥੧੭॥
parsaadaN gur darasneh. ||17||

The One is present everywhere, and gives shelter to every living being.
Nanak says: my mind is touched by that love, by the Guru's grace and by seeing the Guru.
The One is everywhere, sheltering every living being.
The One is everywhere and shelters every living being.
Jath kath ramna(n): present here, there and everywhere. Sarna(n) sarbatar jee-aneh: the shelter of all living beings, every bug, bird and person.
Tath lagna(n) paraym: love takes hold of the mind. Parsaada(n) gur darasneh: it comes by grace, through the sight of the Guru. Grace is a gift that is always there; the heart opens to it.
