The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is obtained, O Nanak, by those who have such destiny written upon their foreheads. ||22||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Give up every wrong habit, and plant right living firmly inside you.
Nanak says: the Sangat is found by those who have this written on their foreheads.
Set down every wrong habit, and plant right living deep inside.
Setting down wrong habits and rooting right living deep inside go together.
Sarab dokh para(n)tiaagee: give up every fault. Sarab Dharam darirh-aa(n)tanh: plant all of right living firmly within. Dharam here means the way a person lives, kind, honest and fair, more than what a person believes.
Mastak likh-yan-a: written on the forehead, the old picture for destiny. The Sangat comes to those whose lives carry this writing.
