Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Farid says: see pain and pleasure as the same, and clear the wrong things out of your heart.

Whatever pleases Allah is good. Understand this, and you will reach the court of the One.

What pleases the One is good — meet joy and pain the same way.
The deeper layer

Meet happy days and hard days with the same steady heart, and trust that what pleases the One is good.

This salok is by Guru Arjan, written in Farid's name. Dukh sukh ik kar: make pain and pleasure one. Dil tay laahi vikaar: take the wrong things, like anger and greed, out of your heart.

Alah bhaavai so bhalaa: whatever pleases Allah, the One, is good. That is trusting the flow of life, the hukam. Taan labhee darbaar: then the court of the One is found. Think of a tree that bends in the wind and in the sun alike, its roots holding still.

A Question to Sit With

How could you stay steady on a day that goes wrong?
