Kabir, I am the worst of all. Everyone else is good.
ਜਿਨਿ ਐਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੭॥
jin aisaa kar boojhi-aa meet hamaaraa so-ay. ||7||
Whoever understands this is a friend of mine. ||7||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Kabir says: I am the worst of all; apart from me, everyone is good.
Whoever understands it this way, that one is my friend.
Seeing others as good keeps you humble and gentle.
Seeing everyone else as good, and yourself as the one with most to mend, makes you humble and gentle.
Sabh tay ham buray: I am the worst of all. Ham taj bhalo sabh ko-ay: leave me out, and everyone is good. This is humility, the opposite of looking down on anyone. A person who sees this way cannot sneer at others or compete with them. Kabir calls such a person meet, a friend.
A Question to Sit With
How does it feel to be around someone who never acts better than you?
