Salok Bhagat Kabir, Salok 16 — just going home
kabeer sant moo-ay ki-aa ro-ee-ai jo apunay garihi jaa-ay.
Kabir, why cry at the death of a Saint? He is just going back to his home.
rovhu saakat baapuray jo haatai haat bikaa-ay. ||16||
Cry for the wretched, faithless cynic, who is sold from store to store. ||16||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Kabir says: why cry when a saint dies? The saint is only going back home.
Cry instead for the poor one who has turned away from the One, who is sold from one market stall to the next.
For a life lived in love, the ending is a homecoming.
For a life lived in love of the One, death is going home.
Sant moo-ay ki-aa ro-ee-ai: why weep when a saint dies? Jo apunay garihi jaa-ay: the saint is going to their own home. The one to weep for is the saakat, the person who has turned away from the One. Haatai haat bikaa-ay: that person is sold from stall to stall, passed from one craving to the next and never at rest.
