Savaiye in Praise of Guru Ram Das (Bhatt Balh), Verse 4 — remembering, the heart grows clear

ਮਨਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਤੁਝੈ ਨਰ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਿਟਿਅਉ ਜੁ ਤਿਣੰ ॥
mansaa kar simrant tujhai nar kaam kroDh miti-a-o jo tinaN.
Those who meditate in remembrance on You within their minds - their sexual desire and anger are taken away.
ਬਾਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਤੁਝੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਿਦ੍ਰੁ ਮਿਟਯਉ ਜੁ ਖਿਣੰ ॥
baachaa kar simrant tujhai tinH dukh daridar miti-ya-o jo khinaN.
Those who remember You in meditation with their words, are rid of their poverty and pain in an instant.
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਤੁਅ ਦਰਸ ਪਰਸ ਪਾਰਸ ਸਰ ਬਲ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਭਟ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਯਉ ॥
karam kar tu-a daras paras paaras sar bal-y bhat jas gaa-i-ya-o.
Those who obtain the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, by the karma of their good deeds, touch the Philosopher's Stone, and like BALL the poet, sing Your Praises.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜਯੋ ਜਯ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਯਉ ॥੪॥
saree gur raamdaas ja-yo ja-y jag meh tai har param pad paa-i-ya-o. ||4||
O Great and Supreme Guru Raam Daas, Your Victory resounds across the universe. You have attained the supreme status of the Lord. ||4||

In plain words

Those who remember You in their minds: their craving and anger are gone, like a blade of grass.

Those who remember You with their words: their pain and poverty are gone in a moment.

Those whose karma brings them to see You touch the stone that turns metal to gold. Balh the bard says: I sing Your praise.

Great Guru Ram Das, your victory rings out in the world. You have reached the highest place of the One.

Remember the Guru, and craving and anger fall away.
The deeper layer

Remembering the Guru in mind and in words changes you, the way a touch of the paaras turns metal to gold.

Simran means remembering with love. In the mind, kaam and kroDh, craving and anger, are gone like a blade of grass. In words, pain and poverty go in a moment. Those whose karam brings them to see the Guru touch the paaras, a stone in old stories that turns metal into gold. Karam here often means grace.

Balh signs his name here as the one singing this praise. Then the chorus rings out: Guru Ram Das, your victory fills the world.
