Savaiye in Praise of Guru Ram Das (Bhatt Keerat), Verse 2 — the sandalwood tree whose fragrance spreads

He served the True Guru and found the treasure. Night and day, he lives at the One's feet.
So the whole Sangat loves You and holds You in awe and respect. You are the sandalwood tree, and Your sweet smell spreads far and wide.
Dhroo, Prahlaad, Kabir and Trilochan spoke the Naam, and its light shone out.
Seeing him, the mind is filled with delight. Guru Ram Das is the support of the saints.
Like sandalwood, a life of service spreads its sweetness far and wide.
Whoever serves the True Guru finds the treasure, and lives at the One's feet night and day. So the whole sangat, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One — holds him in bhaa-ay bha-o, love and deep respect.
Keerat calls him malee-aagar, sandalwood. Sandalwood makes everything near it smell sweet, even the axe that cuts it. A good life is like that. It sweetens everyone around it.
Then Keerat names Dhroo, Prahlaad, Kabir, and Trilochan. They came from very different homes. Each one shone by keeping the Naam, and all are honored equally.
Think of fresh bread baking. The smell fills the whole house. Just seeing such a Guru, the heart is glad. Guru Ram Das is the support of the saints.
