Millions are asleep, in the false illusion of Maya.

O Nanak, they alone are awake and aware, who chant the Naam with their tongues. ||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Countless people are asleep, caught in Maya, the world's glitter that does not last.

Nanak says: only they are awake who say the Naam with their tongues.

*Saying the Naam keeps you awake while the world sleeps.*
The deeper layer

Saying the Naam wakes a person up while the world sleeps in its glitter.

Sutrhay: countless are asleep, maa-i-aa jhoothee kaarnay, for the sake of Maya that does not last. Rasnaa naam uchaarnay: those who say the Naam with the tongue are the ones awake. Sleep and waking are pictures of forgetting and remembering.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel awake and present instead of just going through the motions?
