Salok Vaaraan Te Vadheek (Mehl 3), Salok 55 — the antidote to the world's poison

maa-i-aa bhu-i-angam sarap hai jag ghayri-aa bikh maa-ay.
The poisonous snake, the serpent of Maya, has surrounded the world with its coils, O mother!
bikh kaa maaran har naam hai gur garurh sabad mukh paa-ay.
The antidote to this poisonous venom is the Name of the Lord; the Guru places the magic spell of the Shabad into the mouth.
jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa tin satgur mili-aa aa-ay.
Those who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny come and meet the True Guru.
mil satgur nirmal ho-i-aa bikh ha-umai ga-i-aa bilaa-ay.
Meeting with the True Guru, they become immaculate, and the poison of egotism is eradicated.
Radiant and bright are the faces of the Gurmukhs; they are honored in the Court of the Lord.
jan naanak sadaa kurbaan tin jo chaaleh satgur bhaa-ay. ||22||
Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru. ||22||

In plain words

Maya — the pull of the world — is a poisonous snake; O mother, it has wrapped the world in its poison.

The cure for the poison is the Naam of the One; the Guru places the Word in the mouth like a healing charm.

Those for whom it was written from the start — the True Guru comes and meets them.

Meeting the True Guru, they become clean, and the poison of ego melts away.

The faces of the Gurmukhs — those who turn to the Guru — shine bright; they are honored in the court of the One.

Nanak says: I am forever devoted to those who walk in the True Guru's Will.

The Naam is the cure for the snake-poison of the world's pull.
The deeper layer

The pull of the world works like snake poison, and the Naam is its cure.

Maa-i-aa bhu-i-angam sarap hai: Maya is a snake that has coiled around the world. Gur garurh sabad: in old India, a garurh charm, named after Garuda, the great eagle that eats snakes, was said to cure snakebite. The Guru's Word is that charm, placed in the mouth.

Those who meet the Guru become nirmal, clean, and bikh ha-umai, the poison of ego, melts away. Haumai, ego, is the feeling of being a separate self. The faces of those who turn to the Guru shine in the court of the One.
