O Nanak, Yoga is obtained even while sitting in your own home, by following the Teachings of the True Guru. ||64||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Union with the One does not come from wearing orange robes; it does not come from wearing dirty, ragged clothes.
Nanak says: union comes even while sitting in your own home, by following the True Guru's teaching.
Union with the One is found at home, through the Guru's teaching.
Union with the One is found in ordinary life, through the Guru's teaching, whatever you wear.
Jog means union — being joined with the One. Saffron robes and ragged clothes were the outer marks of wandering yogis. The salok sets them aside gently: ghar baithi-aa jog paa-ee-ai, union is found sitting at home. The point is aimed at outer show, never at any people or path.
