O Nanak, if you meet with the True Guru, the Lord shall come to dwell within your mind, and you shall find the door of salvation. ||65||

In plain words

You may wander in all four directions and read the Vedas, the oldest holy books, through all four ages.

Nanak says: when you meet the True Guru, the One comes to live in your mind, and you find the door to freedom.

Meet the True Guru, and the door to freedom opens inside.
The deeper layer

You can search the whole world, but the door you want is inside you.

chaaray kundaa jay bhaveh — you may wander in all four directions. You may read the Vedas, the oldest holy books of India, through all four ages. The Vedas are named with respect. Study is good. But reading and wandering alone do not finish the journey.

Think of hunting everywhere for your glasses, when they are on your head the whole time.

naanak saachaa bhaytai — when you meet the True Guru, the One comes to live in your mind. paavahi mokh du-aar — then you find the door of mokh, freedom. That door opens from the inside.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can only understand by living it, not just reading about it?
