Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 150
Verse 2 of 5

Peace Arrives With Presence, Not Better Circumstances

ਸਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਜਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਂਵੈਂ ॥
sagal sookh jaaN tooN chit aaNvaiN.
There is total peace, when You come into my mind.
ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so naam japai jo jan tuDh bhaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He alone is pleasing to Your Will, who chants the Naam. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is complete peace the moment You enter my mind.

The one who pleases Your Will is the one who chants Your Name.

Peace arrives with the One's presence, not with your circumstances finally improving.
The deeper layer

The Pause: "total peace, when You come into my mind." Peace arrives with the One's presence, not with circumstances improving. And pleasing the Will and chanting the Name are one and the same act.

A Question to Sit With

What brings you peace that doesn't depend on things going your way?
