Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 163
Verse 5 of 5

A Mind Full of the Name Has Nothing to Strive For

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉਨ ਉਹ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
kaho naanak ka-un uh karmaa.
Says Nanak, what action is there left to do,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੭੨॥
jaa kai man vasi-aa har naamaa. ||4||21||72||
by one whose mind is filled with the Lord's Name? ||4||21||72||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Says Nanak: what is there left to do

for the one whose mind is filled with the Name?

When the mind is full of the Name, the restless striving quiets.
The deeper layer

When your mind is full of the Name, there is nothing left you need to chase.

Guru Arjan closes with a question. Kaho naanak ka-un uh karmaa — Nanak says, what is left to do? He means for the one whose mind is filled with the Name of the One.

Think of how restless you feel when you are hungry. You keep looking for a snack. After a good meal, that searching stops. You are full. The Name is that kind of fullness for the mind. There is no more trick or method to hunt for.

But this fullness is not the same as stopping. The whole shabad still calls us to keep listening and keep remembering. That is how the Name stays in the mind.

A Question to Sit With

What would 'enough' feel like — nothing more you needed to do or prove?
