In plain words

The actor displays himself in many disguises, but he remains just as he is.

The soul wanders through countless incarnations in doubt, but it does not come to dwell in peace.

Like an actor in many costumes, the soul changes forms again and again — and still finds no rest.
The deeper layer

The soul keeps changing costumes, life after life, but it never finds rest that way.

Natoo-aa bhaykh dikhaavai baho biDh — an actor shows himself in many costumes. Yet underneath he stays just as he is. Think of a school play where one kid plays a king, then a tree, then a dragon. It is the same kid the whole time.

The soul is like that. It takes form after form through countless lives, wandering in doubt. With all that costume-changing, sukheh naahee parvaysaa — it never comes home to peace. It keeps going, never arriving.

A Question to Sit With

Have you changed many outward things and still not felt at peace inside?
