The One Loves to Come Close

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
basant mehlaa 3.
Basant, Third Mehl:
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
bhagat vachhal har vasai man aa-ay.
The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He dwells within their minds,
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
gur kirpaa tay sahj subhaa-ay.
by Guru's Grace, with intuitive ease.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
bhagat karay vichahu aap kho-ay.
Through devotional worship, self-conceit is eradicated from within,
ਤਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
tad hee saach milaavaa ho-ay. ||1||
and then, one meets the True Lord. ||1||

In plain words

The One loves those who love the One, and comes to live in their minds,

by the Guru's grace, gently and with ease.

Loving the One, they lose the proud just-me feeling from inside,

and then they meet the True One.

When you lean toward the One with love, it leans right back.
The deeper layer

The One loves those who love, and comes to live inside their hearts, gently and with ease.

bhagat vachhal means the lover of devotees, the ones who love the One. By the Guru's grace, the One comes to live in their minds sahj subhaa-ay — naturally and with ease, not by force.

Then vichahu aap kho-ay — the "just me" feeling melts from inside. This is not about hurting yourself. It is about the proud, separate feeling getting softer. Think of an ice cube in a glass of water. As it melts, it becomes part of the water around it. When that proud feeling melts, we meet the True One.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt something warm come close just because you opened up to it?
