Sikhism·Raag Basant·Shabad 18
Verse 5 of 5

The Giver Who Wants Nothing Back

aapay kartaa sabh ras bhog.
The Creator Himself enjoys all delights.
jo kichh karay so-ee par hog.
Whatever He does, surely comes to pass.
vadaa daataa til na tamaa-ay.
He is the Great Giver; He has no greed at all.
naanak milee-ai sabad kamaa-ay. ||4||6||
O Nanak, living the Word of the Shabad, the mortal meets with God. ||4||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Creator enjoys every delight.

Whatever the One does comes to pass.

The One is the Great Giver, without a speck of greed.

Nanak says: living the Word, you meet the One.

The Great Giver gives and gives, and asks for nothing back.
The deeper layer

The Creator enjoys everything, and the Great Giver gives with no greed at all.

Vadaa daataa til na tamaa-ay — the Great Giver with not a sesame-seed of greed; this is the giving-without-return theme. Jo kichh karay so-ee par hog — what the One does comes to pass, the working of Hukam.
