Home in Your Own Heart

ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

Serving the True Lord, one realizes Truth.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥
gur kai sabad har dar neesaanai.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he goes to the Lord's Court with his banners flying proudly.

dar saachai sach sobhaa ho-ay.
In the Court of the True Lord, he obtains true glory.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
nij ghar vaasaa paavai so-ay. ||3||
He comes to dwell in the home of his own inner being. ||3||

In plain words

Serve the True One, and you come to know Truth.

Through the Guru's Word, you reach the One's court with your banner flying.

At the True Court, you are given true glory.

You come to live in the home of your own heart.

The home you are looking for is inside your own heart.
The deeper layer

The true home is inside your own heart, and serving the True One brings you there with honor.

Serve the True One, and you come to know what is true. Through the Guru's Word, you arrive at the One's court with your neesaan flying. Neesaan means a banner or a badge of honor. Think of a team walking into the stadium with their flag held high. They arrive welcome and honored.

And where is this court, this home? Nij ghar vaasaa paavai so-ay — they come to live in their own true home. It is the inner home of a calm, settled heart. You do not have to travel far to reach it.

A Question to Sit With
