Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, day and night, egotism is removed and washed away from the Gurmukhs. ||1||Pause||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
This is how the mind turns fresh and green.
Whoever faces the Guru and repeats the Naam of the One, Har, Har, day and night, washes the ego right out and away.
Repeating the Naam rinses a heart the way spring rain washes leaves.
Your mind turns green again when the Naam washes ego out of it, day after day.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. In biDh ih man hari-aa ho-ay: in this way, this mind turns green. Gurmukh ha-umai kadhai Dho-ay: the one who faces the Guru washes out ha-umai, ego, the feeling of being a separate self. Repeating the Naam day and night works like spring rain on dusty leaves: steady, gentle, and fresh.
