naanak har ayko karay so ho-ay. ||4||1||
O Nanak, whatever the One Lord does comes to pass. ||4||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One and only One is at work in the whole world.

Nanak says: whatever the One does comes to pass.

Whatever the flow of life sets moving, moves.
The deeper layer

Whatever the One does comes to pass, and the One is at work everywhere.

Ayko ayk vartai har lo-ay — the One alone is at work in the whole world. Naanak har ayko karay so ho-ay — says Nanak, whatever the One does comes to pass. This is the Hukam, the One's will, the way all of life flows. Guru Ram Das ends his short song on this calm trust.

Think of floating on your back in a gentle river. When you stop fighting the current, it carries you. Trust in the One feels like that.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can relax about because it is simply out of your hands?
