The One Who Moves Us

ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
keetaa ho-aa karay ki-aa ho-ay.
What can the created being do?
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis no aap chalaa-ay so-ay.
The Lord Himself moves him.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
nadar karay taaN bharam chukaa-ay.
If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then his doubts are dispelled.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥
hukmai boojhai taaN saachaa paa-ay. ||4||
If the mortal realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he obtains the True Lord. ||4||

In plain words

What can something that was made do by itself?

The One is the one who moves it.

When the One gives a glance of grace, doubt clears away.

When you understand the flow of life, the Hukam, you find the True One.

You are not doing this alone; grace moves you, and understanding the flow brings you home.
The deeper layer

After all the talk about effort, here comes relief. The One is the one who moves us.

keetaa ho-aa karay ki-aa ho-ay — what can something that was made do all by itself? The One sets us going. When the One gives a nadar, a loving glance of grace, our doubts clear away.

Then comes hukam, the One's order — the way life flows. hukmai boojhai — whoever understands that flow finds the True One. Think of a kite. It flies best when it stops fighting the wind and lets the wind lift it. This is not giving up. It is resting and moving along with the One.

A Question to Sit With

When has something worked out not because you forced it, but because you stopped fighting it?
