The Giver Who Never Stops

ਤੁਮ ਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਨਹਾਰ ॥
tum daatay parabh daynhaar.
You are the Great Giver, O Generous Lord God.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nimakh nimakh tis namaskaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Each and every instant, I humbly bow to You. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the Great Giver, O generous One, always giving.

Every moment, again and again, I bow to You.

The giving never stops — so neither does the thankfulness.
The deeper layer

The One is the Great Giver, so every moment is a moment to bow in thanks.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. tum daatay parabh daynhaar — You are the Giver, the generous One who keeps on giving.

nimakh nimakh tis namaskaar — every nimakh, every blink of an eye, I bow to You. Think of how often you breathe without even noticing. The Guru wants thankfulness to be like that: a way of living, as steady as breathing, much more than a one-time "thank you" card.

A Question to Sit With

How would your day feel if you noticed one thing to be thankful for every hour?
