Sikhism·Raag Basant·Shabad 46
Verse 4 of 5

The Highest Way of All

sagal Dharam meh ootam Dharam.
Among all religions, this is the ultimate religion.
karam kartoot kai oopar karam.
Among all rituals and codes of conduct, this is above all.
jis ka-o chaaheh sur nar dayv.
The angels, mortals and divine beings long for Him.
sant sabhaa kee lagahu sayv. ||3||
To find Him, commit yourself to the service of the Society of the Saints. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Of all the good ways to live, this is the highest.

Above all rituals and rules, this deed stands highest.

Angels, people and gods all long for the One.

Give yourself to serving the company of the One's people.

The highest path is often the humblest one — simple service.
The deeper layer

The highest way to live, above every ritual, is serving the company of the One's people.

sagal dharam meh ootam dharam — the highest way, above rites (karam kartoott). Found through sant sabhaa kee sayv — service among the One's people, more than ceremony.

A Question to Sit With

What is a simple, humble act that can matter more than a big show?
