His state and condition are sublime; the Lord's Glorious Virtues permeate his body.

Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the diamond of the Lord's Name is revealed.

In plain words

Their state becomes high and beautiful, and the One's good qualities fill their whole body.

Through the Guru's teaching, the diamond of the One's Naam shines out.

Their love is tuned to the Naam, and a heart split in two, loving other things, falls away.

Nanak, Your servant, prays: O One, let me meet the Guru.

The Naam is a hidden diamond that, once found, shines out through your whole life.
The deeper layer

Through the Guru's teaching, the hidden diamond of the Naam begins to shine.

Ootam gat means a beautiful, high state. The One's good qualities fill the whole person, right down to the body.

Gurmat pargatay raam naam heer means through the Guru's teaching, the diamond of the Naam shows itself. Heer means diamond. Think of a jewel lying in a dark drawer. Open the drawer, let the sunlight in, and it suddenly sparkles.

Doojaa bhaa-o means a divided love, a heart split between the One and everything else. That split falls away, and love settles on the Naam.

Guru Nanak does not end by showing off. He ends with a longing: let me, too, meet the Guru.

A Question to Sit With

What is something valuable that stays hidden until you take the time to uncover it?
