Everywhere at Once

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਓ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
saaDhsangat parabh kee-o nivaas.
God dwells in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਹੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ॥
har jap jap ho-ee pooran aas.
Chanting and meditating on the Lord, one's hopes are fulfilled.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

God permeates and pervades the water, the land and the sky.
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ॥੩॥
gur mil naanak har har kahi-aa. ||3||
Meeting with the Guru, Nanak chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One makes its home in the Sangat.

Repeating the One's Name again and again, my hopes come true.

The One fills the water, the land and the sky.

Nanak says: meeting the Guru, I say the One's Name, Har, Har.

The One you look for is already everywhere at once.
The deeper layer

The One lives where people gather to remember, and fills the water, the land and the sky.

Saadhsangat parabh kee-o nivaas: the One has made a home in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Har jap jap ho-ee pooran aas: repeating the One's Name again and again, hope comes true.

Jal thal mahee-al rav rahi-aa means the One fills the water, the land and the sky. Think of the air in a room. You cannot see it, yet it is in every corner. Gur mil naanak har har kahi-aa: meeting the Guru, Nanak says Har, Har, the One's Name.

A Question to Sit With

If something filled the water, the land, and the sky all at once, where would you look for it?
