A Song That Clears the Air

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
basant mehlaa 5.
Basant, Fifth Mehl:
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨਾ ॥
kilbikh binsay gaa-ay gunaa.
The sins are erased, singing the Glories of God;
ਅਨਦਿਨ ਉਪਜੀ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਾ ॥੧॥
an-din upjee sahj Dhunaa. ||1||
night and day, celestial joy wells up. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Singing the goodness of the One, my wrongs are wiped away.

Night and day, a quiet music of calm joy rises up inside me.

Singing something good can quietly clear away what was weighing on you.
The deeper layer

Singing the goodness of the One washes old wrongs away and leaves a calm joy humming inside.

Kilbikh binsay gaa-ay gunaa: wrongs are wiped out by singing gun, the good qualities of the One. An-din upjee sahj Dhunaa: night and day, a sahj Dhun, a tune of natural ease, wells up.

Think of a song you love that keeps playing in your head long after it ends. You did not have to try. It just keeps you company, and the heavy feeling slips away.

A Question to Sit With

What song or good thought lifts a heavy mood for you?
