God has rid me of my filth, and made me stainless and pure.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਰੇ ॥੩॥
gur pooray kee sarnee paray. ||3||
I have sought the Sanctuary of the Perfect Guru. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One has cut away my dirt and made me clean and clear.

I have come into the shelter of the Perfect Guru.

Sometimes getting clean inside just means stepping into good shelter.
The deeper layer

The One washed away the dirt from my heart. All I did was come to the Guru's shelter.

parabh kaat mail nirmal karay — the One cut away the mail, the grime, and made me nirmal, clean and clear. Think of a window after a good rain. The dust runs off, and suddenly you can see the sky.

What was my part? gur pooray kee sarnee paray — I came into the sarnee, the shelter, of the Perfect Guru. It is like a child running inside when it starts to storm. The one step was coming close. The cleaning was a gift.

A Question to Sit With
