Nobody's Above It

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਅਰੁ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
jogee jangam ar sanni-aas.
The Yogis, wandering ascetics and renunciates
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰੀ ਇਹ ਫਾਸ ॥੧॥
sabh hee par daaree ih faas. ||1||
- this net is cast over them all. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The yogis, the holy men who wander, and the ones who give up home to search —

this same net is cast over them all.

The hardest inner struggles are shared by everyone — even the wisest.
The deeper layer

Nobody is above this pull. Even the most serious seekers feel it.

He names three kinds. Jogee are yogis. Jangam are wandering holy men. Sanni-aas are people who give up home and family to search for the One. sabh hee par daaree ih faas — this net is thrown over all of them.

It is like a cold going around a school. The teachers can catch it too, not just the students. So there is no shame in feeling the pull. And no one gets to look down on anyone else. We are all in the same net, and we all need the same help.

A Question to Sit With

Does it help to know that even the wisest people struggle with the same things you do?
