Verse 3 of 4

Carried to the Far Shore

ਜਿਹਿ ਜਿਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ॥
jihi jihi har ko naam samHaar.
Those who contemplate the Name of the Lord
ਤੇ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
tay bhav saagar utray paar. ||2||
cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever keeps the One's Naam in mind

crosses over the wild, frightening ocean of the world.

Keeping something steady in mind can carry you across the roughest water.
The deeper layer

Keep the Naam close, and you are carried safely across.

jihi jihi har ko naam samaar — whoever holds the Naam of the One in mind. tay bhav saagar utray paar — they cross the bhav saagar, the big, rough ocean of the world.

Picture a small boat on choppy water. It feels scary in the middle. But a good captain knows the way to the calm, sunny shore. The Naam is like that captain. The restless heart from the verses before does not have to fight the waves alone.

A Question to Sit With

What steady thing helps carry you through when life feels like rough water?
