Carried Home With Honor

ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

The mortal loses his honor, gathering sin and corruption.
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
saach naam rato pat si-o ghar jaa-ay.
But imbued with the Lord's Name, you shall go to your true home with honor.

jo kichh keenHas parabh rajaa-ay.
God does whatever He wills.
ਭੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
bhai maanai nirbha-o mayree maa-ay. ||4||
One who abides in the Fear of God, becomes fearless, O my mother. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

A person who gathers wrongdoing loses their honor.

Colored by the True Naam, you go to your true home with honor.

Whatever happens, the One does it, in the flow of the One's will.

Whoever lives in awe of the One becomes fearless, O my mother.

Awe for the One quietly melts your smaller fears.
The deeper layer

Awe for the One makes you brave.

Gathering wrongs, a person loses their honor. But the one colored by the True Naam goes home with honor. Everything happens by the One's will.

Bhai maanai nirbha-o — whoever holds the One in awe becomes fearless. Bhai here means awe and wonder, not being scared. Think of looking up at a huge mountain. It is so big that small worries seem to shrink. When the heart is full of awe for the One, the little fears lose their grip.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel wonder at something huge, what happens to your worries?
