Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O princess, my daughter, run away from this place!

Sing the True Naam, and let it make your days beautiful.

Serve your Beloved, the One, and lean on the support of love.

Through the Guru's Word, let go of your thirst for what poisons you.

Turn toward what is true and let love wash the rest away.
The deeper layer

Run toward what is true, held up by love.

Gaachhahu putree raaj ku-aar — run, my daughter, my princess! Here the soul is spoken to as a precious daughter. This is a well-loved picture in Gurbani, where the soul is a bride or a daughter and the One is the Beloved.

The advice is warm. Naam bhanahu — sing the Naam, and let it brighten your days. Serve the Beloved, and lean on paraym aDhaar — the support of love. Through the Guru's Word, let go of the thirst for things that harm. Think of a parent calling a child in from a storm: come inside, where it is warm and safe.

A Question to Sit With

What is something true and good you could run toward today?
