Washed Clean and Free

satgur mili-ai mat ootam ho-ay.
Meeting with the True Guru, the intellect is elevated and exalted.
man nirmal ha-umai kadhai Dho-ay.
The mind becomes immaculate, and egotism is washed away.
sadaa mukat banDh na sakai ko-ay.
He is liberated forever, and no one can put him in bondage.
sadaa naam vakhaanai a-or na ko-ay. ||6||
He chants the Naam forever, and nothing else. ||6||

In plain words

Meeting the True Guru, your understanding is lifted up high.

The mind becomes spotless, and ego (the feeling of being a separate self) is washed away.

You are free forever, and no one can tie you up.

You speak the Naam always, and nothing else.

When the walled-off self washes away, nothing can chain you.
The deeper layer

Meeting the True Guru washes the mind clean of ego, and a mind that is clean stays free.

Man nirmal haumai kadhai dhoe: the mind is washed clean as haumai (the feeling of being a separate self) is rinsed out. Ego is a stain that comes off, the way mud rinses from a shirt, leaving a mind that is free and full.

A Question to Sit With

What feels lighter after you let go of trying to prove you are separate or special?
