How can this disease be cured, without my Guru?

Without devotional worship of the Lord, the pain is so great.

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I have tried so many medicines, and I am tired of them all.
How can this pain end without my Guru?
Without loving the One, the pain is so great.
My Master is the Giver of both pain and joy.
Some aches heal from the inside, when you turn toward the One.
Outer remedies wear you out, and the pain eases through the Guru and through love for the One, who gives both pain and joy.
Aukhadh kar thaakee bahutere: worn out from countless outer remedies. Dukh sukh daate thaakur: the One is the giver of both pain and pleasure, so the One is where both are brought. The cure is inner, through the Guru.
A Question to Sit With
Is there a hurt that no outside fix seems to help — what does it need instead?
