The Word Is the Cure

gur kaa sabad daaroo har naa-o.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad, and the Lord's Name are the cures.
ji-o too raakhahi tivai rahaa-o.
As You keep me, so do I remain.
jag rogee kah daykh dikhaa-o.
The world is sick; where should I look?
har nirmaa-il nirmal naa-o. ||4||
The Lord is Pure and Immaculate; Immaculate is His Name. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Guru's Word and the One's Naam are the medicine.

As You keep me, so I stay.

The whole world is sick; where can I look?

The One is pure and spotless, and spotless is the One's Naam.

The Word and the Naam are the medicine for a world caught in craving.
The deeper layer

The Guru's Word and the Naam are medicine for a sick world, because the One and the Naam are spotless.

Gur kaa sabad daaroo har naao: the Word and the Naam are the medicine. Jag rogee: the world is sick, caught in craving and ego. The clean, healing turn is toward the One, nirmaail nirmal (spotless, pure).

A Question to Sit With

When everything around you feels a bit off, where do you go for something clean and true?
