- O Nanak, his heart and consciousness dwell upon and savor the Lord. ||8||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Pain and sickness catch hold of the one who lives only for pleasures.

The One is seen filling each and every heart.

Through the Guru's Word, a person stays free of both joy and sorrow.

Nanak says: that person's heart and mind dwell on the One with love, and savor the One.

The One shines in every heart; held by the Word, you savor it.
The deeper layer

The One fills every heart, and a heart held by the Word savors the One, free of the rule of pleasure and pain.

Ghat ghat rav rahiaa prabh jaapai: the One is seen pervading every heart. The one held by the Word becomes ateet, free of the rule of pleasure and pain, and savors the One with loving attention. Nanak closes on that savoring.

A Question to Sit With

Can you picture the same spark of life glowing inside everyone you meet?
