Countless Kinds of Life

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh jant upaa-ay.
God created 8.4 million species of beings.
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
mayray thaakur bhaanay siraj samaa-ay. ||3||
My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One made millions upon millions of kinds of living beings.

As my Master wishes, the One makes them, and takes them back in again, like a garden through its seasons.

The One made every kind of life, and all of it springs up and folds home again.
The deeper layer

Every kind of life comes from the One and goes back into the One.

Lakh chauraaseeh jant upaae — the traditional 8.4 million species, all made by the One. Mere thaakur bhaane siraj samaae: in the One's will, they arise and merge back. Creation and return as a natural, seasonal rhythm.

A Question to Sit With

How many different kinds of living things can you think of that all share the same world?
