Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You, my Master, are the King, the Ruler of the earth. What power do I have to challenge You?

In all four directions people bow to You, and Your praises are sung in every home and every heart.

In every direction and every heart, thanks rises to the One.
The deeper layer

A heart that has stopped arguing speaks straight to the One.

Guru Nanak uses three names: meer, maheepat and saahib. They mean king, lord of the earth and master. Then he asks, kudrat ka-un hamaaree — what power do I have to challenge You?

This is not giving up. It is the deep ease of someone who has stopped fighting the way life flows. Think of floating on your back in a pool instead of thrashing. The water holds you once you stop struggling. And the answer that follows is praise, not fear. People bow in all four directions, and ghar ghar — in every single home — the One is praised.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so much bigger than you that resting in it feels good rather than scary?
