The Turn Toward Home

raakh layho gobind da-i-aal.
Please save me, O Merciful Lord of the Universe!
tayree saran pooran kirpaal.
I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect Compassionate Lord.
tujh bin doojaa nahee thaa-o.
Without You, I have no other place of rest.
kar kirpaa parabh dayh naa-o. ||7||
Please take pity on me, God, and bless me with Your Name. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Save me, kind Lord of the World!

I come to Your shelter, O perfect, kind One.

Without You, I have no other place to rest.

Be kind to me, my Master, and give me Your Naam.

The way home is simply to rest in the One's shelter and ask to be held.
The deeper layer

After all the wandering, the heart asks to be held and given the Naam.

Raakh layho gobind da-i-aal: save me, kind One. Tayree saran: I take Your shelter. Tujh bin doojaa nahee thaa-o: without You there is no other place to rest. The one gift asked for is the Naam. Here the ache of the long wandering finds its answer: coming home and asking to be held.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or who do you go to, when you just need to feel safe?
