Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I will not give up loving You, O One, even if people laugh at me.

Your lotus feet live inside my heart.

You can keep loving what you love even when others laugh at it.
The deeper layer

You can keep loving the One even when people laugh, because that love lives inside your heart.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. tayree bhagat na chhoda-o bhaavai log hasai — I will not give up my love for You, even if people laugh.

Why can he be so steady? Because charan kamal mayray hee-aray basai — the lotus feet live in my heart. "Lotus feet" is a gentle way of saying the One's loving presence. It is like a kid who loves playing the violin while others think it is uncool. The laughing does not stop them, because the music lives inside.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love that you would keep loving even if others teased you about it?
