I Can't Steer This Storm Alone

ਅਨਿਲ ਬੇੜਾ ਹਉ ਖੇਵਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ॥
anil bayrhaa ha-o khayv na saaka-o.
I cannot steer my ship in this storm.
ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਬੀਠੁਲਾ ॥੨॥
tayraa paar na paa-i-aa beethulaa. ||2||
I cannot find the other shore, O Beloved Lord. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In this storm I cannot steer my boat.

I cannot reach Your far shore, O Beethula, my Beloved.

Admitting you cannot steer alone is the start of being carried through.
The deeper layer

In a strong storm you cannot steer by yourself, and the far shore stays out of reach.

Anil bayrhaa: a boat in the storm-wind. Ha-o khayv na saaka-o: I cannot steer it. Tayraa paar na paa-i-aa: I cannot find Your far shore. It is honest to say where your own strength runs out. Think of a small sailboat in a squall: the sail flaps, the rudder does nothing, and all you can do is call for help.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you find hard to handle all by yourself?
